Terengganu-Kelantan friendly off

Kuala Terengganu: The much-anticipated pre-season friendly between two traditional east coast rivals tomorrow night has been called off.

Terengganu football sources confirm the abrupt news with Bola Pantai Timur just when both Terengganu and TRW fans are looking forward to the first real pre-season test for both teams. Many had made plans to watch the match and decided to skip other social events.

Only two days ago KAFA general-secretary -cum - TRW manager, Hj Azman Ibrahim informed Bola Pantai Timur that Kelantan would field its import players for the first time in the planned match.

Says a Terengganu source, "Kelantan could not send its first team since many of its players are injured and not fit." Marzuki Sulong, Terengganu FA vice-president -cum- manager explains to Bola Pantai Timur, "It is Kelantan which has asked for the match to be deferred, not us."  On the new date, he adds that Kelantan FA will inform its Terengganu counterpart later.

TRW - Turtles may face off in January

Contacted by Bola Pantai Timur, Azman says, "Tomorrow night's match is postponed to January next year if there is a suitable date from both sides."

In a way, the postponement is not entirely unexpected though.

Only yesterday, in explaining the reasons why Kelantan is pulling out from the Lagenda Cup organised by PKNS FC, Azman cited injury woes as part of the reasons.

Anyway, on tomorrow night's postponement, he explains this to Bola Pantai Timur, "It was called off because many of our players are injured and are not fully fit. Moreover our import players have just started training. We would like to concentrate on players' fitness first."

According to Azman earlier, TRW is scheduled to face Sime Darby on 27 December. But TRW is now unsure which team they  will play against in Kota Bharu. Reason: Sime Darby will play in Semen Padang instead on 28 December, and not in KB a day earlier.  For now, Azman says TRW is expected to field its full team in this 27 December home match.
