Turtles to focus on defence

Kuala Terengganu: Terengganu head coach, Hj Abdul Rahman Ibrahim says for the next two weeks, Terengganu will focus on strengthening their defence department.
Abdul Rahman: Important roles for Zubir and Bikana

He explains to Bola Pantai Timur, "Vincent Bikana and Zubir Azmi will play important roles." He adds however that midfielder Mario Karlovic will miss the first few games as he is recovering from a minor ligament injury. Striker Izzaq Faris Ramlan who was with Zubir at the recent SEA Games in Myanmar, will "slowly fit into the system as the Malaysian Super League starts".

Unlike in the last season, Terengganu  has depth among its registered players for the new season.

Abdul Rahman stresses, "We have a big pool of players. It is important to exhibit the right mentality and attitude towards shaping behaviours in winning competitive matches."

He also gives a positive account of the team's recent Indonesia tour.

"We passed the test of playing four games in eight days, travelling to all venues and starting the matches at 3.30pm in scorching heat. It was a satisfying experience which had cemented team spirit and mental strength," he says.

During the tour, Terengganu won over Matador 3-2 and drew the remaining games - versus Arema (2-2), vs Madura (1-1) and vs Persik (2-2).
